Schedule/Timeline Schedule/Timeline

You have two days time to do your tasks and post the results. When the two days for a task are over, you might still post your results, but I will not have the time to check them. I also will most ikely not be able to answer questions on task 1 while task 3 is running. So please check on the first day of each task if you can do it. If so, you're fine and you might post your findings for task 1 later during the course - but please do not ask questions on task 1 when task 2 or 3 are running.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh and unfriendly to you, but we have so many people here in this seminar that I have to be careful in order to keep things going. ;-)

I will put next lessons and tasks online the evening/night before they start so that you have time to work on them the whole day. I will normally be available for direct questioning in the evenings, but you might also find me online during daytimes. You can always use the forum to ask questions.

How to have a great experience How to have a great experience

A word about "online-discipline". We will be over 600 participants in this course which is a huge number. Last time we were about 120 participants and from time to time there was confusion. This mainly was because of people not sticking to the rules in the forum.

You will make this seminar a great and valuable experience for everony if you try to stick to the thread titles (if you have a question concerning task 1, then use the question-thread for task 1, if you have a general question about podcasting, use the thread for general talk about podcasting and if you want to post yor results for task 3, use the thread for posting-results-for-task-3) - I think you're getting the message ;-)

I'm really looking forward to seeing all of you online and I'm sure we'll have a great experience in this crowded online seminar ;)

Welcome Welcome

Hi everybody,

welcome to the "podcasting in the creative classroom" event. I am totally overwhelmed by seeing more than 600(!) people in this course. That sure is a totally new experience. I hope we will get along fine and will share a great online experience.

First lesson will start on Saturday October 10th. Each lesson/task will be over two days so that you'll have enough time to do your tasks and report back to us in the forum. Let me give you some general information on the course:

  • There will be five different topics/tasks that you will have to fullfill during this seminar.
  • You will get two days for each task.
  • There will be a discussion group for each task where you can ask questions.
  • I will be online at least two hours a day to answer your questions.
  • All you need to "know" by now is how to open a webpage and how to install a program on your computer.
  • I will not be here from October 16th till October 19th as I will be on a trip to Hamburg then.

Before we start... Before we start...

While you are still waiting for the beginning of the course you might want to check out what this seminar will be all about. It is about... podcasting ;-) And what can you do with a podcast? For example things like this:

http://www.antonianum.de/podcast

This is my school's fairly new podcasting website. We use it to present products of our students like songs, music compositions and radioplays. In this course you will (not only, but also) learn how to do this.

Special Hardware Special Hardware

For some lessons you will need special hardware/software ressource as there are:

Task 2/3
We will record audio on these days. You should have a microphone or headset attached to your computer to be able to record something.

Task 4
This day is a special day for those of you who are web experts and who want to set up their own Loudblog. If you want to do so you'll need FTP-access to your website and a mySQL Database that you can use. If you do not know what FTP and mySQL are, simply use today's handout and show it to your school's website administrator. He/she should be able to help you along with it.
